Certain people just seem to look fit and lean all the time no matter what age they are or what time of year.

(I know obnoxious aren't they)

But in reality, this doesn't happen by accident.

Whether they are making conscious choices to do so or they have been doing things a certain way their entire life, I guarantee you they do these three things pretty regularly.

For today's little fitness tidbit, I want to spell out the three habits I see all the time in people who manage to stay lean.

Here we go...

1) They are 'mindful' of food. I know mindfulness is a bit overused these days as a term, but - in reality - there is not a better expression for what these folks do.

They simply are aware of their food choices...never eating too much, making smarte...

If you've seen me around the gym in the mornings, you might have noticed me drinking a giant green beverage. It garners a lot of questions.

I explain what's in it and why I drink my famous smoothie every day. I also find myself telling people about my famous smoothie recipe as a solution to health problems and for increased fat loss.

One of my clients that I got started drinking this smoothie lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks!

Not only is this smoothie your fastest way to losing unwanted body fat, it’s also one of the healthiest things you can do for yourself.

I use this smoothie to stay lean year round and combat all the toxins that find their way into my body on a daily basis.

I make one of my famous smoothies every day. Had one today and I&...

Hope you're having a great Holiday Season so far! My wife & I just threw a Christmas party this weekend at our "new" home". I say our "new home" because we just moved into my parents' old house and the house I grew up in. It's new to us, but also old to me. :-)

Every year when I was young my parents would have a party when the Argosy Christmas ships would pull up in front of our house and carolers would sing for everyone by the water. So this year I decided to revive that tradition and have a party for the Christmas ships. It was a great night visiting family & friends! I'm excited to start this tradition back up again!

Well I got my wife back this past week. She went off to Palm Springs on a bachelorette party so it was just me and my boys for 4 days. We definitely get closer when it's just dad and his two sons for a while.

For the last month or so, we've been very busy getting settled after moving to West Seattle. So this past weekend we decided to do some quintessential family stuff outside, despite the rainy drizzle. All it takes is some proper rain gear right? Walking on logs at the beach and exploring trails in the park are fun no matter what the elements give you.

Luckily it wasn't as cold as it was last weekend though. Still can't believe we got snowed on. My older son, Tristan, had his last soccer game of the season last Sunday in the snow! He wo...

It seems like once Halloween hit Western Washington, winter decided to bi-pass fall and come early this year! I don't recall ever getting snow this early in the Seattle area. I wonder if that means we'll have a snowy winter? I hope so! I love playing in the snow. :-)

My wife left this Sunday for her soon-to-be sister-in-law's bachelorette party get-away in Palm Springs. So, it'll be just me & the boys this week. With school & work, we'll stay pretty busy while she's gone. Hope she comes back feeling refreshed after enjoying the warm desert sun and being kid-free!

Hope you had a fun Halloween! We had a great time dressing up with our kids (who were Darth Maul & a storm trooper) and trick-or-treating with them. My sister, brother-in-law, & n...

Brining is a wonderful method for fast, flavorful salmon fillets. The cool thing about this quick brine is that it only takes 15 minutes. Let the fillets brine while you heat up the grill, set the table, and prepare a salad. Then the fillets cook directly on a nonstick skillet (or when I do many fillets I’ll use my pancake griddle) and are done in under 15 minutes.

Mornings are great aren't they? I never thought I would be the person to say that. But it's true! I've always been a night person. I'm sure you've gotten many emails from me at 2, 3, or 4am. I get energized the later it gets!

But ever since my little boys started "big kid school" this year, I have to get up at the crack of dawn (6:30am). And as it turns out, it feels good! I get as much done in a 16 hour day as I always did but being awake as the world around you wakes up is something special.

I realize though that it's all relative. I used to wake up at 10am and stay up until 2am and now that I wake up almost 4 hours earlier it feels like a different world. So much opportunity!

So here's my challenge to you. Get up an hour or more earlier ...

We had more birthday fun this weekend celebrating my wife, Nicole's, birthday on Saturday. We had a bunch of friends over to our house and then went to the Depeche Mode concert (her favorite). We had a big group of 8 that went to the concert so it made it tons of fun.

I'm pretty excited because we have a field trip to the zoo this week. My older son, Tristan's, class is going and I signed up to chaperone. I LOVE field trips but I have to admit that I don't really love the zoo. I feel bad for the animals. Seems cruel to cage up those wild beasts. But I'll compromise my beliefs for a day to have some fun with the kindergarteners. :-)
